The phrase “highball” may have originated with American railways (which grew significantly between 1828 and 1873) but it could also have English and/or Irish roots, with “ball” being a typical term for a glass of whiskey in Ireland and, more specifically, in golf club bars in late 19th century England.

Ingredients For Brandy Highball

  • 2 oz apple brandy
  • carbonated water
  • 1 twist lemon peel

Instruction For Brandy Highball

In a highball glass, pour apple brandy over ice cubes. Fill halfway with carbonated water and swirl to combine. Serve with a twist of lemon peel on top. (If you want, ginger ale can be used instead of carbonated water.)
