Martin Wilkes Heron, a bartender in New Orleans in the 1870s, is credited with creating the original recipe for Southern Comfort. According to the writers, the original recipe was dubbed Cuffs & Buttons because the components in it resembled cuffs (citrus swaths) and buttons (cloves). Whatever you do, use fresh lime juice to make a fantastic Kamikaze.
